NEW YORK – A 28-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested in connection with the brutal beating received in September by a 79-year-old man who died a month after the attackauthorities said.
James Woods was charged with assault on Wednesday for the beating of Ángel Díaz, who was attacked outside his own apartment on the street. Hoyt, in Brooklyn, on September 13. Surveillance video of the incident shows Diaz trying to defend himself from the man with his cane, but the man allegedly hit him and knocked him to the ground. The suspect continued to hit the 79-year-old man several times in the face before walking away, the video shows.
It is unclear what led to the incident. Díaz died on October 29.
Autopsy results as to the cause of death have not been published. Woods could face other charges if the case is deemed a homicide.
It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
