NEW YORKPolice have arrested a man who they say brutally attacked a grandparent couple aged 82 and 73, along with their 30-year-old grandson, after an argument on a Brooklyn subway platform, authorities say .

Luis Hernández was arrested and charged Monday on charges of attempted murder and two counts of battery in the Oct. 19 attack, police said.

The grandparents and their grandson were on the south platform of the Clinton-Washington A / C subway station in the Clinton Hill area when Hernandez approached them, smoking a cigarette, police said.

According to the NYPD report, the grandson began arguing with the smoker, who allegedly approached the grandson and began punching him in the face. The 82-year-old grandfather tried to intervene and was also punched in the face.

Then, the report says, the 73-year-old granny tried to intervene and was pushed onto the train rails when the subway entered the station. Fortunately, she was not hit by the subway, but after the fall she suffered serious head injuries and was hospitalized at Methodist Hospital.

His grandson also suffered a serious head injury and is hospitalized at the same location; while his 82-year-old grandfather needed stitches to close a head injury and was discharged.

The incident caused the closure of lines A and C from Broadway Junction and Jay St-MetroTech stations in both directions for a few hours.

Hernández escaped immediately after the attack, but police caught up with him two weeks later, after he was identified on the street and detained. It was unclear whether he had hired an attorney.
