Surviving prisoners known as “Wagnerites” who endured the war are being geared up for pardon in Russia.

British intelligence suggests that in the near future the Wagner prisoners who survived the war in Ukraine and survived will receive the promised pardon and freedom, and for Russian society their return may become a challenge.

As writes “European truth“, this is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense.

It notes that in the coming weeks, thousands of prisoners who were recruited in Russian prisons into the ranks of the Wagner group and who went through the war are likely to receive pardons and freedom. Intelligence recalled that the peak of the recruitment of volunteers from prisons fell in the autumn and they were then promised the cancellation of their sentences after six months of service.

“Although about half of the recruited prisoners are likely to have died or been injured, there is evidence from Russia that the group (Wagner, – ed.) is sticking to the promise to release those who survived. The certificates issued to the released veterans of the Wagner group are allegedly confirmed by decree of President Putin,” British intelligence notes.

Analysts note that Prigozhin appears to have been barred from continuing to recruit volunteers from prisons, and that this mass layoff from the group will make things worse for the Wagner group. In addition, the mass return to their cities of former criminals, many of whom served sentences for serious crimes and now have a traumatic experience of the war, is likely to become a serious challenge for Russian society.

Recall that in a previous review, British intelligence noted tactical similarity of the situationwhich develops near Avdeevka, with the ongoing defense of Bakhmut.
