Was the 2017 “Roland Garros” (“French Open”) champion title a surprise to you? “I worked hard to become a “Grand Slam” champion. And I achieved it at the age of 19, when I wasn’t really ready for it. Then my life changed a lot, so it took time to adapt to it,” admits the 26-year-old athlete.
Will you participate in the Paris Olympics? “Of course I want it. If I qualify, but I’m pretty sure I will. That would be great. Besides, these games will be held in Paris, where I won Roland Garros. Because maybe my third Olympic Games will be lucky,” says Alyona Ostapenko, who lost in the first round in her first two Olympic Games. “I have won many tournaments in France – U10, U12, “Les Petits As” (U14). I had good success there already as a child.”
The tennis player believes that she could be remembered as a fighter and because of her facial expressions.
