Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg has died, and Americans are grieving

Her death, according to Reuters, could further outweigh the balance of power in the nine-seat Senate Supreme Court, which has so far dominated five to four. The American media predicts heated disputes over the nomination of a deputy for Ginsburg.

President Donald Trump learned of the death from journalists at a meeting in Minnesota. “She led an amazing life, she was an amazing woman,” he responded immediately. He added that he was saddened by the news. He said in a later statement that the United States had lost a legal titan.

It is unclear whether Ginsburg’s successor will be chosen before the November elections. Trump did not comment on this, his rival Joe Biden said he should now mourn and succeed the president after the election.

People took to the streets

In the streets of Washington in front of the Supreme Court building, people began to gather at night local time to light candles and place bouquets.

“Our country has lost its lawyer of historical significance. We in the Supreme Court lost a beloved colleague. “We mourn today, but with the firm conviction that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her – as a tireless and vigorous fighter for justice,” said John Roberts, president of the US Supreme Court.

Ginsburg has been a member of the Supreme Court for over 27 years. She became her in 1993 after being appointed by then-President Bill Clinton, and was only the second woman to receive a post in the United States Supreme Court. The post of chief justice is a lifelong position in the United States.

Both Reuters and the AP describe her as a women’s rights activist, who has gradually become an icon for American liberals. During her appearance in the Supreme Court, she faced a number of health problems, including rib fractures, lung cancer and colorectal cancer.

She has been receiving chemotherapy in recent months after being examined for liver tumors in February.
