The entrepreneurial couple Marco and Loeki Verbeek from Burgum have filed for bankruptcy themselves, reports curator Cynthia Grondsma.
The Plus supermarket opened in November 2018 in a former Jumbo. The couple had good spirits and expanded the store by a third to approximately 1,200 square meters, despite the fact that Leek is well stocked in supermarkets. “But from the beginning there was a loss-making exploration. Turnover fell short of expectations, ”says Grondsma.
Debt of 3 million euros
The couple decided to close the store early last month. Tuesday, April 14, was the last opening day, after which another sale followed. Bankruptcy was filed at the beginning of this week.
This was a surprise to supermarket chain Plus. She had the lien on the assets, but had not yet removed the company inventory. This is now part of the bankruptcy estate, according to Grondsma, who estimates the total debt burden at approximately 3 million euros.
Some interested parties have registered for an acquisition.
