Superman cartoon sold for over 27 million kroner – NRK Kultur og underholdning

The booklet is the very first edition of the Action Comics series, and was published in 1938. At that time it cost 10 cents, or just under a penny with today’s exchange rate.

The booklet introduces the reader to Clark Kent, aka Superman, and the story of how he came to earth for the first time. The seller of the edition that now set a record bought the booklet for just over 2 million dollars in 2018.

The comic was first published in the United States in 1938.

The magazine has now been sold for $ 3.25 million through the digital auction house ComicConnect.com.

The sum should be the highest paid for a cartoon ever. The buyer is not known, writes the news agency AP.

However, the margin of the previous record is small. In 2014, another Action Comics booklet sold for just over $ 3.2 million, according to the Associated Press.

Vincent Zurzolo, one of the bosses of the auction house, believes that the first edition of Action Comics really marked the start of the superhero genre.

– There is no other cartoon you would value higher than the first edition of Action Comics, says Vincent Zurzolo, one of the managers of the auction house.

The booklet in question was initially printed in several hundred thousand copies, says Zurzolo. Today, there are only about a hundred copies left, in varying condition.

Zursolo says the booklet that was sold this week is among the best-preserved editions.

According to the website WealthyGorilla.com are the two most expensive comics ever sold first editions of Action Comics. Then follows the first editions of Amazing Fantasy and Detective Comics, where Spiderman and Batman are introduced for the first time, respectively.
