Saint Nicholas of Mira (o Myra) o san Nicolas of Bari, bishop of Look, in Lycia (in present Turkey), is from the 4th century AD. C.
We know some facts about this saint thanks to a biography he wrote Saint Methodius, Archbishop of Constantinople in the 9th century.
According to the account, Saint Nicholas came from a wealthy family. Since he was a child, what his relatives gave him he gave immediately to those most in need.
An uncle of Saint Nicholas who was a bishop ordained him a priest. His inheritance, when his parents died, distributed among the poor and went to a monastery.
After a trip to the Holy Land, on his return to the city of Mira he was consecrated bishop.
Passed away on December 6, 345 and his remains centuries later were transferred to Bari.
One of the miracles The best known of this saint is that of having saved three sisters from falling into prostitution: through the fireplace of his house he sent money to the father of the young women, who could not support them. Thus he also got a good dowry to marry them off.

Saint Nicholas is asked for help before difficult economic situations, in the dangers, in shipwrecks and in fires. You are also asked a good marriage.
In the West he is called Saint Nicholas of Bari, while in the East he is Saint Nicholas of Mira.
Saint Nicholas is patron of Russia, Greece and Turkey.
Its fame is very extensive throughout the world and is associated with Santa claus, the good character that hands out gifts to children for Christmas. This name comes from the German meaning of Nicolás, Nikolaus.
