Hybrids MOTOR UPDATE TESTS

March 14, 2021 Reading timeThere are some values that Subaru has very clear, these are safety, reliability, quality and comfort. Their range relies on the cornerstone of all-wheel drive and a good dose of active and passive safety, which has many affiliates around the world. The new Subaru Impreza Eco Hybrid collects all this under a compact body, for those who do not need so much space, but everything else.
Solo Eco Hybrid
Before the Impreza had a 1.6 gasoline engine, with LPG options, but now the range is reduced to this Eco Hybrid version. This means that all Imprezas will now carry a 2.0 naturally aspirated gasoline, obviously boxer, four-cylinder, 150 hp.
So that consumption and performance do not suffer, an electric motor of 16.7 HP comes on the scene, powered by a 0.57 kWh battery, which will be a great protagonist at low speed or at specific moments, such as starting from standstill or strong accelerations. . It is a mechanics that we already tested in the XV Eco Hybrid leaving a good taste in the mouth
The set continues to produce the combined power of 150 hp and 194 Nm of torque from the gasoline engine, but the electric motor intervenes more than one might think. Whenever it does, the word “EV” will appear green in our instrument cluster.
Enough power to be efficient
In practical terms, we have a car with moderate power, it is not very fast but for normal day-to-day use we will rarely need more power.
And it could consume very little to be a hybrid, but as in the entire Subaru range, all-wheel drive is present as standard. Therefore, the approved average is 7.7 l / 100 km, a good figure to have all-wheel drive.
This Symetrical AWD system allows you to have that extra safety that Subaru likes so much, allowing you to enjoy driving whatever the road conditions. It is not to have better performance, in fact it does the 0 to 100 km / h in 10 seconds, it is to have better control of the car at all times.
And you certainly have it, there is no curve in which we notice loss of grip when accelerating or moment in which we think that the Subaru Impreza Eco Hybrid will not go where we ask. He is very obedient and that in the end counts a lot for our daily tranquility.
But undoubtedly the safest element of the Subaru Impreza Eco Hybrid is the Eyesight system, included as standard, with which we have the following security systems:
- Pre-collision braking function
- Pre-collision brake assist function
- Cruise control and adaptive cruise
- Lane departure warning function
- Lane keeping function
- Throttle control function
- Forward car advance warning function.
Little tweaks and a lot of quality on board
This Impreza is a simple restyling of the fifth generation that arrived 3 years ago, so Subaru has not complicated with the aesthetic changes. The front end sports a redesigned bumper, new LED headlights, also standard, and there are new 17 ″ anthracite gray wheels. In its rear the headlights are also new.
But inside is where it beats us. Far above the average, this Impreza Eco Hybrid presents a high quality of finishes and materials. The upholstery is good, the dashboard even has seams for its lining, and the steering wheel and gear lever are in leather. In addition, the steering wheel now incorporates paddles for the 7-speed Lineatronic gearbox, a very smooth and efficient automatic transmission that is best left to work on its own.
The space is also commendable, starting with very large rear seats in which an adult can fit without problems and has enough room for the head and even for the knees if there is someone of the same height in front.

The boot is 340 liters of capacity, which can be expanded to 919 liters by folding down the second row of seats, and has a retractable cover, a double floor and anchor hooks in the cargo area.
Subaru Impreza Eco Hybrid, verdict
The level in the compact C segment is high, and the new Subaru Impreza has very clear strengths, which may or may not be the requirements that one looks for in this type of car. The first is safety, taken to the highest level thanks to this infallible all-wheel drive system and the numerous active and passive safety systems that are offered as standard.
This condition of being AWD makes its consumption seem high compared to other rivals, but if we live in areas with adverse weather conditions, it gives us a good opportunity to have a more efficient and safe car without having to go to an SUV of greater price and size. in case you don’t need it.
The other great asset is the value for money. The Subaru Impreza Eco Hybrid is one of the most complete cars in its segment, although it is true, we are not given the option of ordering it without equipment, since there is only one finish, the URBAN, with a price of 31,250 euros with the discount of the Mark.
For that price we have such interesting and useful standard elements as the preventive security system EyeSight, seven airbags, high / low beam change assistant, rear view camera, active and adjustable head restraints, ISOFIX anchors, 17 ”alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, adaptive headlights with pop-up headlamp washers, rear view mirrors electric folding with integrated indicators, tinted windows, rain sensor, heated front seats, dual automatic climate control with dust filter, infotainment system compatible with Apple Car Play ® and Andrid Auto ® with 8 ”central display, Bluetooth and Siri voice recognition Eyes Free ®, Subaru STARLINK, double USB port and aux audio input, high performance multifunction display, shift paddles on the steering wheel, Auto Start Stop system and electronic handbrake with ramp assist and smart access key with start button among others.
