Sturm Graz is happy about Despodow’s return

Even without the offensive man Kiril Despodow waiting for his corona virus test result, Puntigamer Sturm Graz contested a first training in small groups on Tuesday. The Bulgarian team player Despodow cured his ankle injury so far, according to a club spokesman during the forced break, that a deployment in a possible restart of the league can at least not be excluded.

Despodow caught a flight to Austria the day before, unlike his Spanish teammate Juan Dominguez. Dominguez, who is stuck in Galicia, and Sturm are still trying to get a coronavirus certificate, without which the 30-year-old is not allowed to leave. In addition, the flight situation is confusing. The PCR tests carried out on Monday were negative for all other players and coaches, the club announced on Tuesday.

For a long time it seemed uncertain whether Despodow, who had been loaned out by the Italian first division club Cagliari, would appear again in the Sturm-Jersey. But the rehabilitation in his home country, after having an ankle operation at the end of February, apparently went according to plan. Already at the end of March, when all sports facilities in Austria were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Despodow completed individual turf training in Sofia. The 23-year-old right wing has not played a competitive game since December. Previously, he had six goals and six assists in eleven league games for Sturm.
