Stupid, Putin tests the Russian vaccine at once to 40 thousand people

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Russia is preparing to start clinical trials of the Covid-19 vaccine next week, involving 40,000 people. In early August, Russian President Vladimir Putin caused an uproar, because Russia became the first country to register the corona vaccine.

The world’s first Covid-19 vaccine is named ‘Sputnik V’. The vaccine was developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Ministry of Defense, and was controversial.

However, researchers and WHO reminded Russia to be careful because it still requires a strict safety review. Quoted from Channel News Asia this test will be the equivalent of a phase 3 trial that other vaccines are currently undergoing.

The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriyev, said at the briefing online that vaccination of risk groups, including medical personnel, will also begin next week on a voluntary basis. More than 20 countries according to him have made requests to buy more than one billion doses of the vaccine.

Dmitriyev added that Russia has agreements with several countries to produce vaccines. In addition, mass vaccination in Russia is targeted to start in October and exports in November or December 2020.

This vaccine received warnings from western scientists that Russia may be moving too fast. However, Dmitriyev said skepticism was starting to wane.

“We are seeing a significant change in tone from WHO. Initially yes, they did not have enough information about the Russian vaccine, now official information has been sent and they will evaluate it,” he said. Channel News Asia, Friday (21/08/2020).

But he added “We don’t see any obstacle for individual regulators to approve a Russian vaccine without WHO approval,” he said.

Russia had recorded more than 942,000 confirmed coronavirus infections as of Thursday, the fourth highest number after the United States, Brazil and India, and more than 16,000 deaths.
