Study: Health Workers Experience Higher Mental Pressure After the Covid-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has not only had an impact on the economy.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Pandemic Covid-19 not only has an impact on the economy, but also affects physical and mental health. Scientists recently studied the psychological impact of this pandemic on healthcare workers, outpatients and the general population in parts of South Asia.

The team from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) found that the implementation of regional quarantine (lockdown), which is needed to suppress the spread of the virus, has largely changed people’s lifestyles and social behavior. These changes are related to their psychosocial pressure.

In fact, healthcare workers, who have been on the front lines during the pandemic, have been badly affected. To understand the psychosocial impact of the pandemic, the research team compared psychological distress and protective behavior between Taiwanese health workers and outpatients as well as samples from the general population in Hong Kong.
