Students in San Pedro collect drinking water to donate to families affected by flooding.

This week, students from the Basic School No. 4,118 San Rafael de San Pedro de Ycuamandiyú carried out a activity that consisted of collecting drinking water and thus deliveringr to other students of the Antequera district, which unfortunately are isolated by the flooding of the Paraguay River. The idea was born from the great need that families in the second department are going through.

After a series of analyzes and seeing that drinking water was one of the basic needs that was in short supply for these families, they decided to launch the “Safe Water” campaign, which sought to collect the largest amount of water in less than a week and deliver it to these people. The bottles of water reached the families this past Wednesday and they plan to continue with the campaign.

The director of the school Antonia Aquino explained that the campaign consisted of each student having to bring a bottle of drinking water. “The campaign was called Safe Water for Antequera and surrounding areas, which was launched by the regional risk committee and we adhere to these activities,” he highlighted in an interview with Unicanal.

He stressed that there are several areas that are isolated and that in each place there are students affected by the flooding and overflow of the river, among them: Barranquerita, Poroto, Monte Alto and Antequera. “These are families that are going through a bad situation right now and need help,” she pointed out.

For his part, César Sánchez, a risk management technician, pointed out that with all the water collected they are providing the students of the Antequera schools, but that it still needs to reach other areas. “In the Barranquerita and Monte Alto communities, they continue to have problems with contaminated water, which is unfit for consumption.”, he highlighted.
