Strong words by Cezary Gmyz. “It will be too late in a year”

For over a week, protests against the decision of the Constitutional Tribunal on eugenic abortion have been underway in many cities in Poland. Last Thursday, the Constitutional Tribunal ruled that termination of pregnancy due to the suspicion of a serious disease or impairment of the fetus is inconsistent with the basic law.

The decision of the Constitutional Tribunal caused an outbreak of dissatisfaction, especially among left-wing and feminist circles. Mass demonstrations, in which youth and even children take part, cause anxiety, especially among experts and health service representatives. They fear the drastic increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Some commentators are of the opinion that the timing of the judgment on eugenic abortion was not appropriate. He shared such an assessment, among others professor Andrzej Zybertowicz in the Sunday program of Woronicza 17 on TVP Info. The advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland described the timing of the judges’ decisions as “unfortunate”.

Cezary Gmyz, the journalist of “Do Rzeczy” and the correspondent of Public Television in Berlin, Cezary Gmyz, sees the time of issuing the judgment by the Constitutional Tribunal in a completely different way. In his opinion, the declaration of unconstitutional provisions on eugenic abortion came at the right moment.

“I’m sorry, but when I hear that now is not the time to introduce radical, conservative changes, I will be damned. Right now is exactly the time, it will be too late in a year. Radical changes are carried out in the first year after the elections” – he wrote on Twitter Gmyz.
