Ceasefire Agreement Reached Between Israel and Hamas, US Presses for Adherence
Gaza/Jerusalem – October 21, 2025 – A ceasefire agreement has been approved by both the Israeli government and Hamas, though details of the initial phase remain limited. Key issues such as the disarmament of Hamas and the future governance of Gaza are still under discussion.
The agreement comes after negotiations facilitated with the assistance of the United States. Vice President JD Vance, currently visiting the region, praised the cooperation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the ceasefire and peace plan. However, the primary purpose of the US visit is to ensure Israel upholds it’s commitments under the agreement.
Sources close to the Trump management, speaking with The new York Times, have expressed concern that Israel may withdraw from the ceasefire and resume military operations against Hamas. Recent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, attributed to alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas, have heightened these concerns.
Vance affirmed that US troops will not be deployed to Gaza, stating, ”There will not be American boots on the ground in Gaza. The President of the United States has made that very, very clear. our military leadership has made that very clear.” US military personnel are currently monitoring the ceasefire from a command center in southern Israel.
the peace plan envisions an international stabilization force deployed in Gaza to maintain law and order. Vance indicated that Israel’s consent will be required for the contributing countries, but emphasized Turkey’s potential for a central role in the force.
Negotiations between Kushner and Witkoff with Netanyahu and Israeli generals took place yesterday, prior to Vance’s scheduled meeting with Netanyahu tomorrow, Wednesday.
