Strike paralyzes Freiburg’s local traffic – long traffic jams on Tuesday morning – Southwest

It should be a tough day for commuters and schoolchildren: Because of a warning strike, there are no trams or VAG buses in Freiburg. This already has an effect on the streets during rush hour.

The employees of the Freiburger Verkehrs AG (VAG) followed the call to strike by the Verdi union. The buses and trams will remain in the depot this Tuesday. The passengers, who otherwise use local public transport in the city, are on the bike or on foot in the rain – or have switched to the car.

This sometimes leads to long backlogs. At 8 a.m. on the feeder-center, the traffic jam reached back to Umkirch – i.e. even beyond the A5-approach center. From the east the backwater was initially much shorter. There are also traffic obstructions on the A5 motorway. The traffic services report 15 kilometers of slow-moving traffic towards the south. There is also a build-up between Riegel and Freiburg at a construction site.

What exceptions are there in Freiburg?

In Freiburg, only lines 15 and 16 in Gundelfingen and line 31 (Paduaallee – Niederrimsingen – Gndlingen – Breisach) run according to the usual timetable. On line 32 (Haid – Rieselfeld – Opfingen – Waltershofen – Paduaallee) there are no individual journeys. All journeys that are made by private subcontractors on behalf of VAG take place on this line. Further information on the situation in Freiburg can be found in our service text: Buses and trains will be idle in Freiburg on Tuesday.-

For today’s Tuesday, Verdi is calling on a total of 6,400 employees to go on full-day warning strikes in municipal transport companies. In addition to Freiburg, Konstanz, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden, Esslingen and Heilbronn are also affected. The reason for the warning strike in local transport are the faltering negotiations in the general tariff round for local public transport in Baden-Wrttemberg, said Verdi. Good for pedestrians and cyclists: According to the weather forecast, the rain should stop during Tuesday.

Daycare strike in Stuttgart

Three municipal clinics in the Gppingen district and in Rastatt are also affected by the warning strike in Baden-Wrttemberg. Four clinics in the Ludwigsburg and Rems-Murr districts are to follow on Wednesday.

In Stuttgart, numerous children also had to stay at home on Monday. 119 day care centers were closed according to the state capital. 61 facilities remained fully or temporarily open. Student care was also affected by the warning strike in the public service. According to the Verdi union, around 2000 people in Stuttgart went out of work. In addition, the Stadtwerke Ulm went on strike on Monday.

Verdi is demanding 4.8 percent more wages for the nationwide 2.3 million employees in the public service of the federal government and municipalities, but at least 150 euros more per month. The employers have not yet submitted an offer in the first two rounds of negotiations. The third round of negotiations is scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd.
