Strike in Hamburg (HVV), Bremen, Hanover: many commuters affected – Hamburg

Hamburg / Bremen / Hanover – Test of patience for many commuters in the north! You have to be prepared for significant restrictions in local public transport on Tuesday.

After the call by the “ver.di” union, public transport workers across the north went on a warning strike early in the morning.

▶ In Hamburg, employees of the Hochbahn and the Hamburg transport company stopped working when operations began. Only the school traffic is trying to maintain, as the company announced. “Participation is high and the atmosphere is good,” said the Hamburg “ver.di” head of the transport department, Natale Fontana, on Tuesday morning.

As the Hochbahn announced in the morning, the bus and subway operations should only gradually start again from 12 noon.

▶ In Hanover and the surrounding region, local traffic has come to a standstill due to the warning strike in local traffic. It is assumed that there will be no buses or trains in local transport, said a spokesman for the Üstra transport company in Hanover on Tuesday morning.

It is estimated that around 400,000 passengers are affected in the Hanover region. “Üstra” had previously advised its guests to switch to other means of transport. The warning strikes are said to last from the start of operations to the end of operations.

▶ In and around Bremen, too, commuters have to be prepared for restrictions due to the warning strike. Buses and trains in Braunschweig, Wolfsburg, Göttingen, Goslar and Osnabrück are also affected.

▶ The Verdi union called for the warning strike in order to increase the pressure on employers nationwide with a view to new collective agreements for the industry. “It’s not about the money, but about the working conditions,” said Fontana. That is why the union terminated the nationwide collective agreements in the spring.

“Ver.di” now wants, for example, that there are uniform standards for topics such as vacation days, 13th monthly salary or Christmas bonus. Currently, this is not only handled differently in the federal states. Even within Hamburg there are different approaches.

“Ver.di” calls for a 13th month salary, an increase in allowances for stressful work and shifts and 30 days of vacation for everyone as standard for the approximately 87,000 collective bargaining employees in 130 transport companies nationwide. In Hamburg, according to the information, around 7000 people at the Hamburger Hochbahn and the VHH are affected by the collective bargaining.
