DUBAI, 27th September, 2018 (WAM) – Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Member of the Dubai Council, stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between culture and media in the region to develop Arabic content that enhances Arab cultural identity, stressing the pivotal role of the economy. Creative work, which has become a prominent economic sector that contributes to the country’s development system.

Her Highness pointed out that the “Arab Media Forum” represents a valuable opportunity to redefine the concept of culture as a link and a tool for dialogue between different peoples and cultures, and to shed light on this sector with all the creative tools and capabilities it contains, especially since a large part of this role falls on the media, which needs… To cooperate with the sector to correct the concept of culture and put it in its correct place.
Her Highness said during a key session at the Arab Media Forum, which concluded its work today, entitled “Culture and Media… Creative Visions that Shape the Future,” moderated by journalist Faisal bin Hariz, that culture in its conventional sense is the set of societal values, customs and traditions, cultural and social heritage, attitudes and behaviour. And the way of life, pointing out that with time, the scope of culture expanded and became a significant force of influence and change.
Her Highness added that despite the discrepancy in defining the concept of culture, there is no deficiency in understanding this sector, noting that she asked a question in Arabic and English on her Instagram platform, related to defining the concept of culture, and the question included different definitions and choices, and the results showed that The majority of participants chose the correct concept of culture, which combines values, customs, traditions, art, literature, and everything related to that, stressing that the concept of culture today has become broader and more comprehensive.

Her Highness explained that in the past years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, the cultural and creative industries sector has proven its presence as a vital sector that contributes effectively to the development process, which was reflected in the concept of culture, which has increased its comprehensiveness to include creative industries and sectors, such as the arts of all kinds, including music, theatre, cinema, and photography. In addition to media, electronic games, literary works and creativity in various fields, and any industries that depend on elements of thought, innovation, production, distribution, publishing, promotion and services related to creative expression.

Her Highness added that she grew up loving Dubai while seeing her father, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and her brothers continuing to work day and night for its future and the happiness of its people, which motivated her to make more bids and constituted a great source of inspiration for her.
Her Highness said: “Working for Dubai has always been on my mind, and I noticed my passion for the fields of culture and arts, and I felt a desire to develop this sector, because of my belief in its ability to bring about a real change in society, and my start in this field was from the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, until it surprised me.” My father, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, appointed me as head of the authority, via a tweet on His Highness’s Twitter account, and it was a surprise that made me happy.”
