The stream of a new performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Philippe Herreweghe has been canceled. An external employee was tested positive for corona during the preparation.
A spokesperson for the orchestra says that as a precaution it has been decided to cancel the rehearsals and the registration.
As a replacement, the Concertgebouw Orchestra will stream the 2012 performance of the St Matthew Passion conducted by Iván Fischer. This stream will take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. via the orchestra’s Facebook and YouTube channels, after which it can be seen again for two weeks on concertgebouworkest.nl/video.
The Netherlands Bach Society had already decided last year not to perform the St Matthew Passion this year because it felt that it could not do it justice due to the corona measures.
