In Britain it is a common joke among police officers to stop speeding offenders and ask, “What do you think you are? Lewis Hamilton?” So says Tony Jardine, who worked as a team manager in Formula 1 and was a racing driver himself before switching to television, where he still works as a motorsport expert.
Moss was also stopped by the police one day while driving through the Mersey tunnel on the Aintree circuit. “The policeman then leaned in and asked,” What do you think you are? Stirling Moss? “Said Jardine at ‘talkSPORT’.
“And he said: that’s exactly who I am,” Jardine recalls. However, that did not prevent Moss from paying the ten pound fine …
