Storm warning in Dordogne: what to expect?

The Dordogne was placed on orange alert to thunderstorms and on a yellow alert for high winds for this Friday, June 26 from 6 p.m. But the start of the disturbances is expected this Friday afternoon from 3 p.m. The prefecture of the Dordogne launched this Friday morning a call for caution and vigilance.

“The stormy and windy risks will start from 3 p.m. and will be of a stronger intensity between 6 p.m. and midnight. The disturbance will affect more particularly the south of the department (Bergeracois, Périgord noir). Thunderstorms will be associated with a strong electrical activity and a risk of hail. Strong gusts of wind are expected between 80 and 100 km / h and 110 to 120 km / h in some places. Finally, sustained precipitation is expected: from 10 to 20mm / h on average, which can locally reach 30 to 50 mm / h. “

State services advise limiting travel and providing information before undertaking it. The prefecture also suggests to avoid using the telephone and electrical devices, to beware of falling trees or objects and not to intervene on roofs. Of course, there is no question of going for a walk in the forest or sheltering under a tree.

Before disturbances begin, it is also safer to store objects exposed to the wind.

The orange alert is active until Saturday June 27 at 1 a.m.
