REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA — HIV/AIDS sufferers in Yogyakarta are currently the highest after Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya. However, public awareness of the rejection of stigma and discrimination in people with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and children with HIV/AIDS (ADHA) is considered to be very lacking.
“Our goal is to reduce stigma and discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS themselves. Whereas people with HIV/AIDS need our encouragement, our attention, and our embrace to stay alive. Because we have the same right to live in this world, ” said Millennial Influencer, Daniel Cahya Saputra, at the World . event AIDS Day Campaign at Tugu Pal Putih, Yogyakarta, Wednesday (1/12).
This is influenced by the lack of public understanding of the HIV/AIDS transmission system. So Daniel considers that the warning AIDS day This needs to be commemorated in order to educate the public.
“People always discriminate that HIV/AIDS is a disease that is easily transmitted, even though the transmission is not that easy. Therefore, our goal is to educate the public in more detail and specifically about HIV/AIDS,” said Daniel.
Education in the campaign was carried out through distribution of brochures and stickers against stigma and discrimination against PLWHA and ADHA to road users. In addition, the increase in cases of PLWHA in Yogya is due to a lack of education on the dangers of promiscuity, health education, as well as education related to the HIV/AIDS virus.
“What has to be done is build positive mindset and we must stay away from promiscuity, promiscuity, and drugs. We have to be really in a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
