Stocks New York: Investors exercise caution – Dow winning streak continues | 12/29/21

NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – After a strong year, the US stock markets seem to be running out of momentum in the last few meters. Investors held back, although fears of the omicron variant of the corona virus were waning, a stockbroker said. Because there is increasing evidence that the rapidly spreading strain of the pathogen leads to milder symptoms, even if the number of Covid 19 cases worldwide has risen over a million for the second day in a row, it said.

The Dow Jones Industrial (Dow Jones 30 Industrial) was last listed on Wednesday 0.24 percent higher at 36,487.17 points. This means that the Dow’s latest winning streak is holding up, which is now in positive territory for the sixth trading day in a row. The S&P 500 rose 0.09 percent to 4790.46 points midweek. The tech-heavy NASDAQ 100, on the other hand, fell 0.12 percent to 16,468.26 points.

Among the individual stocks, investors once again focused on Tesla shares after the founder and boss of the electric car manufacturer, Elon Musk, made further shares into money. According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the currently richest person in the world sold around 934,000 shares worth 1.02 billion US dollars. The Tesla papers initially reacted to this with a price drop, but stabilized again as trading progressed.

At the beginning of November, Musk had agreed to sell a tenth of his shares in the electric car manufacturer via a vote on the Twitter platform. With the latest sale, Musk has sold a total of approximately 15.6 million shares worth $16.4 billion so far. To get the targeted 10 percent, he would have to sell around 17 million shares.

The renewed cancellation of hundreds of flights in the USA weighed on the shares of domestic airlines again. Delta Air Lines was down 1.1 percent and United Airlines down 1.6 percent. American Airlines shares lost 2.5 percent./edh/he
