REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA — An epidemiologist from the Faculty of Public Health, Airlangga University, Laura Navika Yamani, reminded the public to always take care of their health to welcome the rainy season. Various diseases are easier to attack the body during the rainy season, especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Laura said the rainy season usually causes the immune system to drop. This condition makes it easier for various infectious diseases to penetrate the body’s defenses.

“Similarly with countries with four seasons, usually the body’s immune system decreases during winter, the production of immune cells decreases,” said Laura in Surabaya, East Java, Friday (26/11).

Laura said, the symptoms of Covid-19 if associated with diseases that appear when rainy season similar to influenza. He explained, influenza is a seasonal disease that most often appears during the rainy season.

In addition, diarrhea is also rampant. When heavy rains cause flooding and inundation, the source of infection also spreads in the contaminated water.

Maintaining health in the rainy season during the pandemic according to Laura is not much different from the dry season, either with or without a pandemic. First, because it is still a pandemic, he suggested that people continue to apply health protocols.

In addition, a healthy lifestyle is also important. You do this by adjusting your diet, getting enough rest, and keeping your mind from getting stressed easily.

Laura also emphasized the importance of exercise to keep the body in shape. Indeed, there are times when the cool air in the rainy season makes the body lazy to move. However, exercise can be done anywhere, including at home.
