Stephen Curry stands by Russell Westbrook after death threats against family

Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry jumped to the side of Russel Westbrook. The Los Angeles Lakers point guard recently complained that his family was now being threatened on social media.

“I have a lot of respect for how he’s handled the situation this season,” Curry told Chris Haynes Yahoo Sports via Westbrook. “I mean what he says, how he acts and how he protects his family with it.” Westbrook recently spoke at a press conference about the extent of the hostilities and the burden this is on his family.

“Unfortunately, that’s how business works,” says Curry. “They make you big to bring you down again. All the superstars in this league know what I mean. He’s very professional about it and I support him too.”

At the same time, Curry condemned the behavior of some fans, especially when the sporting aspect takes a back seat. “It’s bullshit when someone attacks personally, the name is dragged through the dirt and it’s not about basketball anymore,” the Warriors guard continued.

Curry himself and his wife have also been repeatedly targeted online for their social media activities, although not at the level Westbrook has experienced since his trade to the Lakers.

The 32-year-old has mostly been used as a scapegoat for the disappointing season of the Lakers, who are currently only ninth in the Western Conference. The guard has 18.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists, but scores as badly as he did in 2009/10. The shaky throw (three-pointer rate: 28.2 percent) is always an issue.
