Stellar departure? Voráček is out of action due to a concussion, presumably the end of his career is at risk

Czech hockey forward Jakub Voráček of the Columbus Blue Jackets team missed NHL games for a month with a concussion. According to some speculation raised by theathletic.com, his career would be at risk. A press conference could tell more. The 33-year-old 2010 world champion will meet reporters at his home Nationwide Arena on Monday ahead of the team’s training session.

Voracek has still not been cleared by doctors to return to any hockey activity since his last appearance, which was the Blue Jackets’ Nov. 4 game in Tampere against Colorado. He also scored in the 3: 6 loss, but in the third period Dryden Hunt hit him in the face with a high stick, and the next day in the rematch in Finland, Voracek was already absent from the Ohio team. He has not yet returned to the team due to a concussion.

“Jake has had a series of head injuries throughout his career. And after the last one, doctors advised him to take time off to see if the lingering symptoms he has eased to the point where his condition allows. to come back and play,” the club’s general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen told the club’s website.

He himself cannot predict how the condition of one of the foremen will develop further. “We don’t expect everything to be resolved in the near future. And we will give Jake all the time he needs because the most important factor here is long-term health,” said Kekäläinen.

For The Athletic, he indicated that the third most productive Czech player in NHL history, Voráček, may be considering early retirement. “I’m mainly concerned about him himself, so that he can live a normal life. As for his young family as well, that’s the most important thing – to live a normal life. There are a number of guys to whom this has E one of them also works for our club.” Kekäläinen referred to Voráček’s friend and former big forward Rick Nash.

Kladno’s pupil could be at risk of death also because it is not entirely clear how many concussions he has already suffered in the 15 years spent in the best hockey league in the world. According to the server, he suffered at least one concussion this season even before the games in Finland. The Athletic wrote that Voracek and his representatives exchanged brief text messages, but that the player himself declined to comment on the situation before the scheduled press conference.

Voracek returned to Columbus, which drafted him to the NHL in the 2007 draft as the seventh overall player, prior to last season after spending ten years in Philadelphia. In 2021/22 he was the team’s most productive player with 62 points in 79 games for six goals and 56 assists. So far this season he has managed to play 11 games with one goal and five assists.

In total, during his NHL career, he already has 1058 regular season starts and 806 points (223+583). Among Czech hockey players, only Jaromír Jágr and Patrik Eliáš were better. In 49 appearances in elimination battles for the Stanley Cup, Voracek added 28 points thanks to nine goals and 19 assists.
