Statistics, data, information – everything about the BVB game at SC Freiburg – BVBWLD.de

Nico Schlotterbeck left Freiburg just a few weeks ago to join BVB. But now the 22-year-old central defender is already returning to his old home port. On Friday evening (12 August, 8:30 p.m.), two winners of the first Bundesliga match day, Sport-Club and Borussia, meet in the Europa-Park stadium.

In 2017 Schlotterbeck moved to Freiburg from the youth team at Karlsruher SC. He played in Breisgau until this summer – only interrupted by a one-year interlude at 1. FC Union Berlin (2020/21). Under the long-standing SC coach Christian Streich (57), the native of Waiblingen not only matured into one of the best defenders in Germany, but also into a national team player.

Matthias Ginter (28) also gained experience with the DFB selection. In 2014, after winning the World Cup, where he did not play, the man from Freiburg moved from his hometown to BVB for a transfer fee of ten million euros. He stayed there for three seasons before moving to Mönchengladbach. Now he’s back in the southwest. In the 4-0 win in Augsburg, he immediately entered the top scorer list.

Four hits in five minutes

Borussia Dortmund is one of the feared opponents of SC Freiburg. The Westphalians have beaten the Breisgauers a total of 28 times. Only twice did the BVB professionals not score against SC (in the 0-2 home defeat on October 21, 2001 in Dortmund and in the 0-0 on September 9, 2017 in Freiburg).

The Dortmund team aimed particularly well on the 27th match day of the 2001/02 season. With a clear 5:1 victory, they returned to their home turf. The home side took the lead through Levan Kobiashvili in the 9th minute, but Evanilson equalized after 15 minutes. With the 1:1 we also went into the half-time break. In the second half of the game, BVB started after more than an hour. Within five (!) minutes, the Borussia pros scored four times, believe it or not. Dedé (65th), Márcio Amoroso (66th) and twice Jan Koller (69th, 70th) let the fans burst into cheering.

Today’s BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl would certainly be happy about such a success. The 42-year-old was on the pitch himself in the 5-1 triumph for the Black and Yellows. In the first half of 2001/02, however, he was still active for the sports club. There he scored his side’s second goal in Freiburg’s aforementioned 2-0 win in Dortmund.
