State and passenger who wants to see images of tram stop in conversation NOW

The Dutch State and a passenger of the tram in which an attack was committed in March of last year enter into discussions with each other about viewing images of the shooting incident. On Tuesday, the District Court of The Hague filed summary proceedings for the release of the images.

The court asked both parties to enter into a dialogue with each other to see if they could still come to an agreement. Until that time, no statement is made.

The man would like to see all the images of the attack because, in his memory, the shooter, Gökmen T., also aimed his weapon at him and pulled the trigger several times. The occupant of the tram has survived this, he says, because the gun refused service.

According to the State attorney, Iris Engels, all relevant images showing the passenger are shown to him. The attack has been recorded on security cameras inside and outside the tram.

However, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), these fragments do not show that T. tried to shoot the man. A compelling argument for the OM not to release all fragments to the passenger is because there are also fragments that show that people are being shot. “That is very difficult for surviving relatives,” said the OM.

Man hopes that images substantiate story

The man hopes that the other images can substantiate his story. He also wants to use the images to substantiate his claim as an injured party. In addition, the man wants the indictment against T. to be adjusted to attempt murder in his case.

The 38-year-old Utrechter is suspected of being murdered four times with a terrorist objective, three attempted murder with a terrorist objective and a threat with a terrorist crime of seventeen people.

Attack killed four people

A total of four people died as a result of the firearm violence. A woman of 19 and two men of 28 and 49 died on the spot. A 74-year-old man from De Meern died of his injuries ten days later.

Lawyer Sébas Diekstra, who assists the father of the shot woman, says he does not want to respond substantively. The counsel does say that “reporting on the issue causes the necessary tension and unrest among the relatives”.
