JAKARTA – The mobile phone manufacturer that once controlled the Indonesian market, Blackberry will soon stop providing services on its operating system starting January 4, 2022.

Blackberry has officially announced that it will be discontinuing support for classic Blackberry smartphones running the BlackBerry 7.1 and BlackBerry 10 operating systems starting January 4.

Quoting from Cnet, with the termination of this support, it is estimated that old Blackberry phones will not be able to use data or the internet, make phone calls and even send text messages.

RIM as the developer itself has released BlackBerry 10 which became their last operating system in 2013. RIM then decided to discontinue their OS in 2016.

In the same year, the BlackBerry mobile license was taken over by TCL which then released the BlackBerry KeyOne and BlackBerry Key2 which use Android OS.

In 2020, TCL announced it would stop producing Blackberry phones and only support devices until August 2022.

The Blackberry Mobile brand license was later taken over by the startup OnwardMobility and announced that it would continue to release Blackberry mobile phone products with 5G support. ***
