A fire, quickly brought under control, broke out on Saturday May 14 around 1 p.m. in the Lazaret forest. An investigation is open to find out the causes
A fire broke out on Saturday May 14, in the Lazaret forest, rue du Prince Imperial. Very quickly many calls were sent to the firefighters to alert them. The Anglet firefighters very quickly arrived on site with a forest fire tanker and a fire engine.
They were immediately reinforced by a second tanker truck from Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Thanks to this rapid intervention, only 150 m² of the 40 hectares of the Lazaret forest were affected. The forensic identification services of the Bayonne police station as well as the mayor of Anglet, Claude Olive, went to the scene.
An investigation is open to determine the causes of this outbreak of fire. A human origin seems proven. The Bayonne public prosecutor’s office ordered an expert report to determine whether it was an accidental or voluntary act. The trauma of the neighboring Pignada fire on Thursday July 30, 2020, where several dozen hectares were destroyed, is still very vivid.
