Starlink Offers Discounted Rate to Customers threatening Cancellation
Madrid, Spain – Starlink is now employing counteroffers to retain customers, a tactic traditionally used by established telecommunications companies. The satellite internet provider is offering existing subscribers a reduced monthly rate of €23 for 12 months – a 20% discount – if they reactivate their Residential Lite connection after initiating service cancellation.
The promotion, delivered via push notification and email, comes as Starlink faces increasing competition in the Spanish market. While initially attracting customers with high-speed,low-latency internet starting at €29 per month, and even offering free antenna installation at times, the company is now contending with the expansion of fiber optic networks and fixed wireless access (FWA) solutions from major telecoms utilizing 5G routers.Goverment-subsidized satellite internet, such as Hispasat’s Connected35, also presents a competitive choice.
Many customers initially turned to Starlink while awaiting fiber optic deployment or as a temporary solution during network issues. As fiber becomes available, these users often switch to the more reliable and often more affordable fixed network.
Starlink’s move to offer discounts upon cancellation mirrors a common practise in the industry where providers attempt to match or beat competitor offers to prevent customer churn. This “portability trick,” as it’s known, sees companies offering significantly reduced rates only when a customer signals intent to leave.
