[EPA = 연합뉴스]– Starbucks was ordered to compensate for an employee who drew a ‘closed eye’ on the container of a drink ordered by an Asian customer.
On the 17th (local time), the Irish Workplace Relations Committee (WRC) ordered Starbucks to pay 12,000 euros (approximately 16 million won) to the Thai-Irishman Suchabide Poli.
According to the BBC broadcast, Thai immigrant Polly ordered green tea latte at a Starbucks store in Dublin’s Tallah district on the 12th, and found that his eyes were drawn on a paper cup when a drink was served.
He complained to the WRC, an anti-discrimination organization, and said he felt insulted and offended at the time.
Accordingly, the WRC decided that the visual description of the true person had to do with his race.
In response, Starbucks said that the employee was not trying to insult or offend, and that the atmosphere was favorable even on closed circuit (CC) TV, and said that it was very sorry for the WRC’s decision. Still, Starbucks promised to prevent recurrence.
