Standard de Liège sacks Philippe Montanier, former Lensois coach

He only stayed 6 short months in Liège. Philippe Montanier, spent on the benches of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Lens and Valenciennes in the region, was sacked this weekend because of “the chain of negative sports results”. Standard, 10 times Belgian champion, is currently ranked 11th, a poor performance that supporters could not stand.

Already sacked from Lens in 2020

Very appreciated by northern clubs, Philippe Montanier also had a bad end to his Lens experience, he who said he was in love with the North and the state of mind of its inhabitants when he arrived in La Gaillette. He had been released from the artesian club in February 2020, on the eve of confinement while the blood and gold pointed to 2nd place in the League 2 championship. His assistant coach, Mickaël Debève, had also been disembarked. He also accompanies him in his dismissal from Standard de Liège. To succeed Montanier, several names are circulating in Belgium: Marc Wilmotts, Michel Preud’homme (predecessor of Motanier at Standard) or his former assistant coach Mbaye Leye.
