A-Train AB, the operator of the Arlanda Express line connecting Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station, has awarded Stadler a contract worth 250 million CHF (approximately $270 million USD) to supply seven new FLIRT (Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train) trains. The agreement includes an option for one additional train.

Revamping the Arlanda Express: A New Era of Travel

The new trains are slated to replace the existing fleet, which has been in operation as 1999. Production is scheduled to commence at Stadler’s Rhine Valley SG facility by the end of 2026, with the new units expected to enter service by the end of 2029.

Enhanced Passenger Experience

The new FLIRT trains are designed to significantly improve the passenger experience on the Arlanda Express. The additional units will boost seating capacity by more than 50%. Moreover, the trains will be specifically engineered to withstand the demanding Nordic weather conditions.
