ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The St. Petersburg Green Devils continued their dominant start to the volleyball season with a decisive 3-0 victory over the Gibbs Gladiators on Thursday.This marks the second consecutive win for St. Petersburg, following their season opener.
The Green Devils showcased a commanding performance, winning each set by a significant margin: 25-4, 25-4, and 25-6. The shutout victory underscores St. Petersburg’s strength and control on the court.
Abigail Buffington led the green Devils’ offensive attack with nine kills. Annika xenakis orchestrated the offense effectively, delivering 28 assists throughout the match. Buffington also excelled in serving,recording a team-high nine aces.
With this win, St. Petersburg improves to a 2-0 record on the season. Gibbs, conversely, falls to 0-2.
St. Petersburg will next face St. Petersburg Catholic on september 3 at 7:00 p.m. Gibbs will return to action on Monday, hosting Clearwater at 7:00 p.m.
The St. Petersburg Green Devils volleyball program has a history of competitive play within the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). The team competes in the pinellas County Athletic Conference (PCAC). Gibbs High School also participates in the PCAC, making this a local rivalry game.
