Sri Mulyani Mentioned State Money in BI Reached Rp400 Trillion

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani reveal the state money that is placed in Bank Indonesia (BI) around Rp. 300 trillion to Rp. 400 trillion. So far, the government gets an interest of 80 percent of the benchmark BI 7 days repo rate.

“The average state money in the BI balance is above Rp300 trillion, sometimes it can even reach Rp400 trillion with interest rates set by us and BI,” Sri Mulyani said, Monday (29/6).

He said that part of the funds in BI would be diverted to the banks of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) or the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara). This is in the context of encouraging the recovery of the real sector after being hit by a corona virus pandemic through banks.

The government, said Sri Mulyani, would place funds in the Himbara bank of Rp30 trillion. He claimed to have sent a letter to BI to divert state funds in BI to the Himbara bank.

“We coordinated with BI through a letter we sent on June 23, 2020 to place Rp30 trillion in funds to Himbara bank,” Sri Mulyani said.

Bank Himbara in question is PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, and PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk. Sri Mulyani said that Rp30 trillion of funds had already been distributed in these banks.

“The transaction was carried out on the morning of June 25, 2020. From the Governor of BI (Perry Warjiyo), he told me that it was complete before 9 am The money was already in the Himbara bank,” he explained.

It is known, the regulation of the placement of state funds in Himbara bank is contained in the Minister of Finance Regulation Number 70 / PMK.05 / 2020 concerning Placement of State Money in Commercial Banks in the Framework of Accelerating National Economic Recovery. The regulation was signed by Sri Mulyani on June 22, 2020.

The government will evaluate this policy every three months. Sri Mulyani said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also requested that the evaluation process be carried out with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
