Flemish sports clubs are crying out for help with the Minister of Social Affairs Frank Vandenbroucke (SP.A). Another three weeks and then the scheme will expire, allowing them to pay their trainers untaxed. The 18,000 sports clubs demand a solution in an open letter. “Otherwise we will have to double the membership fee for many athletes,” says Koen Umans of the Flemish Sports Federation.

The rule has only been around for two years, and it has been a boon to sports clubs. Via the statute “association work” they could give their trainers, referees or jury members untaxed up to just over 6,000 euros …
