Manchester United cancel exhibition game due to corona

9:48 pm Manchester United have canceled an exhibition game against Preston North End, which was scheduled for Saturday, due to some corona infections in the selection. “During a routine check of the training group for the first team, we discovered a small number of suspected positive cases on Thursday,” said the English top club.

The players involved, names not disclosed, have been placed in isolation pending further testing. “As a precautionary measure under the Covid protocol, we have made the difficult decision that we cannot play the friendly against Preston now.”

Feyenoord starts return against Drita with Jahanbakhsh in the base

6.57 pm: Alireza Jahanbakhsh makes his debut for Feyenoord in an official match on Thursday. The winger has a basic place in the home game against FC Drita in the second preliminary round of the Conference League. Jahanbakhsh made his unofficial debut after the break in the friendly match against PAOK Saloniki (1-2) on Sunday.

Naoufal Bannis was still a basic player during the first meeting in Kosovo (0-0) last week. Bryan Linssen, who then played on the side, now moves to Bannis’ position as center striker. Jahanbakhsh is right winger, Luis Sinisterra left winger.

Trainer Arne Slot has left his basic team unchanged. If Feyenoord makes it to the next round, the Swiss club FC Lüzern will be the opponent.

Feyenoord and FC Drita kick off at 8 p.m. in De Kuip.

Line-up Feyenoord: Bijlow; Pedersen, Fer, Senesi and Malacia; Toornstra, Kökcü and Til; Jahanbakhsh, Linssen and Sinisterra.

Croatian federation evicts president Suker

6.28 pm: Davor Suker is no longer president of the Croatian Football Association. The 53-year-old former striker of Real Madrid, among others, was fired on Thursday. Suker has been chairman of the federation since 2012. Director Marijan Kustic succeeds him.

The reason for the dismissal has not been disclosed. According to Croatian media, Suker pays too little attention to the current problems in Croatian football, especially the poor infrastructure.

As an international of Croatia, Suker won bronze at the 1998 World Cup. In the so-called ‘consolation final’ against the Netherlands (2-1), he scored once. Suker was the top scorer of that tournament with six goals.

Cambuur cancels practice match after positive corona test

6.19 pm: The practice match between SC Cambuur and FC Emmen is canceled on Friday. “This has everything to do with the personnel problems on the Cambuur side, caused by another positive corona test and the precautions for the selection that go with it,” reports the club from Leeuwarden.

It is not going well for Cambuur in the preparation. Previously, practice matches with FC Twente and FC Dordrecht were canceled, also because of corona. In those two cases it was a corona case at the opponent.

FC Emmen has found another opponent in Go Ahead Eagles to practice against. That happens on Saturday.
