Spiegel: German prosecutor’s office found second suspect in the murder of Khangoshvili

The prosecutor’s office and the federal criminal police department of Germany came to the second possible suspect in the murder in Berlin of a Georgian citizen and Zelimkhan Hangoshvili, a native of Chechnya, the newspaper said Spiegel. The first suspect, Russian Vadim K., was charged a week ago.

According to the German publication, the investigation calls the second suspect a certain Roman D. from St. Petersburg. According to the authorities, he could have participated in the preparation of the murder, but at the time of the murder he was already outside the EU. Spiegel clarifies that Roman D. entered the EU via Poland on August 3, 2019 by car, and left the EU two weeks before the murder.

According to the publication, the investigation concluded that Roman D. was involved in the murder on the basis of several facts. In particular, Roman D. and Vadim K. submitted documents for obtaining a passport and a Schengen visa on the same day. Also, the publication adds, both claimed that they worked as engineers at the St. Petersburg company ZAO Rust. In addition, according to their telephones, both men were in Orekhovo-Zuevo, Moscow Region, months before the murder. “Special FSB forces are training there. Another coincidence? ”Says Spiegel.

Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was shot in the back of the head on August 23, 2019. The attacker was detained on the spot. They found a Russian passport with him. He did not go to cooperate with the investigation. German authorities call him Vadim S. or Vadim K. According to the German Prosecutor General’s Office, Mr. Khangoshvili was killed on behalf of the Russian authorities. Moscow denies the allegations.

On December 4, two employees of the Russian embassy were expelled from Germany. The German side considered that Russia provided “insufficient assistance” in the investigation of the murder. Moscow answered in a mirror and sent two employees of the German embassy.
