Spicy criticism from former Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari at BPOM RI regarding ethylene glycol

Jakarta

Former Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari also spoke of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol contamination in syrups which are believed to cause the deaths of hundreds of children from mysterious acute kidney failure. According to him, there was a government error that ultimately caused the government to ‘concede’.

“There is a BPOM confession that has never checked the level of what is called polluted if it is above 0.1 percent, according to the pharmacopoeia, if a pack of the drug we don’t know how many EG and DEG it contains, yes we can as well blame him, “he said. Sites in an online discussion on Gelora TV, Wednesday (26/10/2022).

The result, according to Siti, has an impact on many sectors, including the loss of some pharmaceutical industries due to the temporary ban on syrup drugs. She also questioned a number of pharmaceutical companies in Indonesia that would later be subject to criminal sanctions by the RI BPOM.

“Consequently, it will also have an impact on the economy and then there are those who are policemen, suspects, in reality it is not like that, here’s what happens is that our governance is like that,” he explained.

“Back then I was still obedient, BPOM RI was not capitalist, not liberal, because after I finished being the Minister of Health there were changes happening in BPOM RI? With liberalization,” he said.

The change accused by Siti is that BPOM RI is now only a place for drug registration, not actually for monitoring or testing drug raw materials. She also accused BPOM RI of verifying the safety of the drug only when problems were found in the product.

Siti believed the government ‘admitted’ in the mysterious case of acute kidney failure because there was a problem in the system, not referring to the fault of either party, both the Indonesian Ministry of Health and BPOM.

“In the past, when BPOM was registering drugs, BPOM was researching them, BPOM RI had a complete laboratory but because of the changes, so that Indonesia had to enter the free market, what were the consequences? BPOM RI was just for the registration, BPOM RI had to obey what was stated in the advertisement – advertising being registered in its place, “he concluded.
