Spending the winter at Domaine La Florida

With the closing of the borders, many of these travelers are preparing to experience winter in Quebec.

Friday morning in Saint-Ambroise, the sun was certainly less hot than the rays that golden the sand of Florida. However, this is the kind of climate that Line Boudreault-Langlois will have to get used to if the American borders remain closed beyond September 21. She has lived in Florida half the year for the past six years and spends the rest of her time at Domaine La Florida. She will have to adjust to a house and lifestyle that is different in every way from what she is used to in the Orange State.

Of course I have no more winter tires so I have to buy some. I don’t even have any more boots, no more coats. I do not have anything. I must “get dressed”. I tell myself that it is a lesser evil and that if it is temporary we will do it. But it asks me to make these little rearrangements, says Line Boudreault-Langlois.

No migration this year

Neighbors of Domaine La Florida are in the same situation and will not migrate south once the cold season is upon us. Work is being organized on the cottages, where you have to think of everything, from snow removal to the supply of drinking water.

This house, I never knew how it was during the winter. It’s northern months here so I can’t wait to see how it will react, but we got equipped to have propane heaters and electric heaters. Since we are in the area for six months, we had to settle in to have water 12 months a year.

Popular popularity

The COVID-19 pandemic has allowed Domaine La Florida, located along Route 172, opposite the Motorized Giant, to enjoy a significant resurgence in popularity. A safety committee ensures that sanitary measures are respected at all times in common places.

Yes, this year we noticed an upsurge in the sale of land and in terms of activity on the estate, given that camping started quite late. There are several people who have not traveled outside so, indeed, there has been more activity, reports Gérard Sainte-Croix, who has used to visit Florida annually for 10 years.

Line Boudreault and Gérard Sainte-Croix feel ready to face the rigors of winter. Above all, they feel ready to pack up as soon as the borders open.
