Extensively equipped, off-road and 272 hp: The Lüdenscheid fire brigade’s fleet was expanded on Tuesday to include a modern fire engine for civil disaster control in the Märkisches Kreis. At the symbolic handover of the keys in the fire and rescue station on Dukatenweg, District Administrator Thomas Gemke thanked the federal government, which financed the procurement of the vehicle.
Lüdenscheid – The MB Atego 1327 AF fire fighting vehicle (LF-KatS), which was designed and built by Rosenbauer Deutschland GmbH, costs 223,000 euros. The extensive equipment includes a 1000 liter tank for extinguishing water, the all-wheel drive and its own power generator. This makes the nine-seater particularly suitable for use in difficult terrain – such as forest fires and storms. Also on board are breathing apparatus, hoses, radios and lots of other equipment.
“This is a great vehicle with great equipment. Lüdenscheid and the Märkische Kreis can be very happy about it, ”said Thomas Gemke. The fire truck should not only be used in Lüden-scheid, but also in disaster control in the Märkisches Kreis and, if necessary, beyond the district’s borders. The Homert fire brigade has been supporting the district for a number of years in missions in which regional help is required.
The federal government, represented by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), wants to procure a total of 306 fire engines and make them available to the federal states as evenly as possible. The federal government also bears the costs for maintenance, insurance and replacement of material. With this, the BBK is fulfilling “its statutory mandate to provide additional support for fire and disaster control in the federal states,” explained Gemke.
