San Jose State University football standout, Jayden Bainer, is making history with his recent defensive performances. Bainer recorded two interceptions in a single game against New Mexico, a feat not accomplished by a Spartan sence Brandon Ezell on October 4, 2019, also against New Mexico. He followed that up with another multi-interception game, becoming the first spartan as Ezell in 2019 to record interceptions in consecutive games – two against New Mexico and one against Nevada.
These accomplishments highlight a significant trend for the Spartans under head coach Brent Niumatalolo. The team has recorded a takeaway in 18 of their last 19 games.Additionally, the Spartans’ passing attack is thriving, currently leading the Mountain West (MW) with an average of 309.0 passing yards per game, ranking 12th nationally after six games.Quarterback Chevan Eget leads the MW and is fifth in the country, averaging 301.5 passing yards per game, and seventh nationally with 23.8 completions per game.
The Spartans will continue their season on the road, facing Utah State on Friday, with coverage on CBS Sports Network. San Jose State will then return home to host Hawai’i on November 1 at 7:30 p.m., also televised on CBS Sports Network.
