SMS has somehow become old school since Whatsapp, Telegram and Co. Hardly anyone uses them anymore! Do you think?

Criminals have apparently discovered them for themselves. Latest victim: the Savings bank.

Sparkasse: This SMS can be expensive

Even at DHL, fraudsters had tried to exploit the flood of parcels during the corona pandemic and to deceive customers with fraudulent SMS in recent weeks.

The alleged message from the Sparkasse looks deceptively real and is grammatically correct.

However, customers should be suspicious of the attached link. It seems dubious and should NOT be clicked on.

The fake SMS contains the following message: “Dear Sparkasse customer, your TAN procedure has expired! Please renew your TAN procedure directly at: [Link]“.

You should use the link to log in with your name and account details.

If you enter this, the crooks can tap your data and have access to your account, the portal warns “Mimikama“.

Best to ignore and delete

This is what you should do: Best of all, just nothing! Ignore the message and delete it, just don’t click the link.

If you are unsure, you can also contact the Sparkasse. Important to know: Sparkasse never sends SMS when it comes to service and account matters.
