Spain with no deaths recorded in the last 24 hours and only 48 contagions

The Spanish Ministry of Health revealed today that no deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours due to covid-19, keeping the total number of deaths at 27,136 since the beginning of the pandemic, and 48 new contagions were diagnosed.

According to the country’s health authorities, 56 people have died in the past seven days.

According to the figures released, there were only 48 new cases diagnosed with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected with the new coronavirus to 241,717 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Daily data also indicate that 124,348 people with the disease have already passed through hospitals, having been admitted in the last week 145.

The Spanish health services receive daily the numbers notified by the 17 autonomous communities in the country that also make adjustments in relation to those reported in the previous days, which has led to discrepancies in the totals presented.

“The individual validation of the cases is in progress, so there may be discrepancies in relation to the aggregated notification from the previous days”, warn the Spanish health services.

The most populated Spanish regions, Madrid and Barcelona, among others, have taken yet another step towards the desired “new normality”, despite being more backward than other areas in relieving the confinement in force to curb the covid-19.

After almost three months of confinement, 48% of the Spanish population (about 23 million people) is now going through the so-called “phase 2” of the plan to end the limitations in force, with the possibility of holding meetings of up to 15 people and there are no slots for walking or physical exercise abroad.

During this phase it is also possible to go to the beach, swimming pools and gyms are opened with a limit of one third of the capacity and visits to the centers for the disabled and homes for the elderly are resumed.

Shopping centers open with their limited capacity and bars and restaurants can also start serving inside, with a capacity limit of 40%.

The remaining 52% of the Spanish population (around 25 million people) also today passed to phase three, more advanced, which includes regions such as Galicia, La Rioja, Basque Country, Asturias, Extremadura, Andalusia and the Canaries, among others .

The presidents of these autonomous communities have regained their “full governance”: they can determine whether to allow mobility between their provinces and decide when to reach the “new normal”.

In this phase, the slots are completely eliminated and groups of up to 20 people are allowed, with up to 50 people authorized to attend the wake in open spaces and 25 in closed spaces.

Marriages and religious services are allowed at 75% of the capacity (maximum 150 people outdoors or 75 people indoors), the capacity of stores is increased to 50%, as well as in restaurants and bars.

The state of emergency in force since March 15, ends on June 20, and by the end of the month, all regions should complete “phase three”, in time for the opening of land borders with Portugal and France from January 1 July, as Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez confirmed again on Sunday.

Spain is one of the countries hardest hit by the covid-19 which, globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, has already infected more than seven million people in 196 countries and territories.

The United States is the country with the most deaths (110,514) and the most confirmed cases of infection (more than 1.9 million).

This is followed by the United Kingdom (40,597 dead, more than 287 thousand cases), Brazil (37,312 deaths, more than 685 thousand cases), Italy (33,899 dead, almost 235 thousand cases), France (29,155 dead, almost 191 thousand cases) and Spain (27,136 dead, more than 241 thousand cases).
