Spain returns Jose Gaya, the young Barcelona defender arrives

Jose Gaya injured before the event World Cup 2022. Alexander Balde then called to replace the Valencia defender.

Jose Gaya was on the lineup list Spanish when they beat Jordan 3-1 in a test match, on Thursday (17/11/2022). He did not play, but the Spanish football federation (RFEF) official website announced a day later that he would replace the player with Balde, who is a Barcelona player.

“After it was confirmed that Jose Luis Gayá had to leave the Spanish national team’s training camp due to injury, the coaching staff took the decision to replace him with Alejandro Balde,” the Spain national team said in a statement.

Balde was actually at the training camp of the Spain U21 national team. He therefore had to fly to Doha immediately because the Matador Team needed replacement ammunition.

This is also Balde’s first call-up to the Spanish senior national team. Calling the 19-year-old player would certainly be a gamble for Luis Enrique considering the World Cup was full of experienced players.

Balde has had many opportunities to play for Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona this season. He has played 12 games in LaLiga and four in the Champions League.

Spain started their first Group E match against Costa Rica on Wednesday (23/11/2022) night WIB. On paper, La Furia Roja is the favorite to win.
