SP.A is postponing its official name change to FORWARD until early next year “due to current corona measures”. That says party spokesman Niels Pattyn. There is still mediation with the Vooruit arts center, but according to the party the name change will happen anyway.

In September, party chairman Conner Rousseau announced via Instagram that SP.A would be moving FORWARD from December. The change of name is in line with the transformation of the socialist party into “a contemporary movement”, they said.
Now the party reports that the moment of the official name change and the associated event have been postponed to the beginning of next year. “Because of the corona measures,” says Pattyn.
The discussion with the Vooruit arts center, which was not initiated by the choice of SP.A, would not have played a role. SP.A and Vooruit are holding mediation discussions, about which they neither want to say anything. The party spokesperson does emphasize that the name change will certainly happen. It is not clear what exactly is meant by the mediation.
