Southampton reaches agreement with professionals

Southampton FC, headed by team manager Ralph Hasenhüttl, is the first club in the Premier League to reach an agreement with its players in the debate about possible salary cuts. As the club announced on Thursday, the professionals, the former Leipzig trainer Hasenhüttl, as well as other employees and the club management postponed parts of their salaries for April, May and June because of the corona crisis.

A statement said the measure would “help protect the future of the club, its employees and the community to which we are committed”. Southampton also said it would not use the government’s emergency program. Among other things, the FC Liverpool team manager Jürgen Klopp had recently sent some employees on short-time work or forced vacation, but after a public outcry, the role was performed backwards.

The highly paid professionals have recently come under increasing criticism due to their negative attitude in the smoldering wage conflict. A request from the Premier League to waive up to 30 percent of their salaries in the face of the corona crisis, they had rejected, citing that the state would lose over £ 200m in tax revenue.
