South Korean film “Parasite” still awarded, before the Oscars

‘Parasite’ has won the most prestigious award of the Screen Actors Guild Awards. This historic victory puts the South Korean film in a good position before the Oscars.

This film, already a gold medalist at the Cannes film festival last year, won the prize “best set of actors”, the most prized reward of this competition, whose prize list constitutes an indicator for the Oscars. “I am a little embarrassed with the impression that we are now the parasites of Hollywood”, joked one of the actors of the film, Lee Sun-Kyun. More seriously, director Bong Joon-Ho acknowledged that the chances of his film’s success at the Oscars are now increasing.

Family drama, mixed with thriller with also a social dimension, ‘Parasite’ tells how a idle family invites itself into the daily life of a rich family, the beginning of an uncontrollable gear. It has enjoyed worldwide success since its release, from South Korea to the United States, via Europe.

Ten days earlier, it had also won the prize for the best foreign language film at the Golden Globes ceremony, the awards presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

‘Although the title is’ Parasite ‘, I think this film is mainly about coexistence and how we can all live together,’ said actor Song Kang-ho, who plays the father of this ‘parasitic’ family.

Archived for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, this work is also anticipated by bookmakers for a nomination in the queen category for best film.

Joaquin Phenix and Renee Zellweger

In the other categories, Joaquin Phenix won the award for best actor for his performance in the film ‘Joker’. Renee Zellweger won the actress equivalent for her late-life portrayal of Judy Garland in the film ‘Judy’.

Favorite for the Oscars, Brad Pitt won the award for best supporting role for his interpretation in the film by Quentin Tarantino ‘Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood’. Laura Dern won the award for best supporting role in women for her role as fiery lawyer in ‘Marriage Story’.

Robert De Niro, star of the film ‘The Irishman’ by Martin Scorsese, has received an award for his whole career. “I’m glad that we were able to bring together the actors we wanted and that Marty (Scorsese) was able to lead us,” he said. ‘We’ll see for the actors’.

‘The Crown’ takes it all

On the television side, the flagship series of Apple’s new streaming service, ‘The Morning Show’, which stages a television program shaken by the controversy #MeToo, wins the first nomination for Apple TV + thanks to Jennifer Aniston, who obtains the award for best dramatic actress.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who created and performed ‘Fleabag’, a dark and wacky comedy, received the award for best actress in a comedy. Peter Dinklage wins that of the best actor for his interpretation of Tyrion Lannister in the cult series ‘Game of Thrones’.

But it was another cult series, ‘The Crown’, which won the prize ‘best set of actors’ on Sunday.

Less visible than the Golden Globes, the SAGs are considered a more reliable indicator for the Oscars because 1,200 of their members vote at the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences (out of 6,000 in total), which awards the prestigious golden statuettes.
