South African children under 10 are no longer allowed to play independently | NOW

South African children under the age of ten are only allowed to play games with adult supervision, reports Business Insider Wednesday. The new rules come into effect next month.

The Film and Publication Board, a content classification and regulation authority in South Africa, has released new guidelines for films and games. The rules were last amended in 2019.

The new guidelines state, among other things, that children under the age of ten may only play games under the supervision of an adult. According to the authority, there are no games that are suitable for all ages.

The updated rules also state that video game makers should be more careful about how violence is rewarded in their games. There is a danger that children learn criminal acts in this way, according to the authority.

The Film and Publication Board does not explain exactly how the new rules will be checked.
